Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Report Road Safety

As you know, the vast majority of parents behave very considerately and safely when dropping off and collecting their children from school. Thank you for this. However, we have a significant minority of parents who park very inconsiderately outside school on a regular basis, causing danger, arguments and upset for others, including children caught in the middle of it all.

As a school, we have no jurisdiction on areas other than on the school site itself but recognise we have a responsibility to make parents aware of the impact they have on the community. Roads around school are public places where the Highway Code is enforceable and therefore reports must be made to the council directly.

‘FixMyStreet’, a downloadable App (and website) makes it very easy to take a photo and report an incident which then gets delivered straight to the council. As well as this, photos of offending vehicles and associated reports remain online for all to see. We would like to encourage all parents who see inconsiderate parking to use this free app to report it. School will also be advising residents to do the same if vehicles are parked on or across driveways for any length of time. We would actively discourage parents from approaching other people due to the upset and fear this may cause for children in the immediate vicinity.

School is unable to enforce rules on the road – please report it.

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School is determined for all pupils to succeed. Since the previous inspection, many changes have been made. The school has prioritised the development of the curriculum to promote high expectations for all pupils. Staff invest in pupils to build positive relationships with them. Personal development is a strength. The school provides opportunities to enrich pupils’ experiences. Pupils value participating in sporting competitions, such as cross country, football and netball. They also take on positions of responsibility, including school councillors and inclusion champions. Pupils value the leadership skills that they are developing. The school has developed an inclusive environment, where all pupils participate in every aspect of school life. Recently, the school has had a new library. The pupils are very proud of it and say, ‘It is a reading wonderland. It is like walking into another world.’ (OFSTED April 2024)
