What is Communication and Language?
Communication and Language is one of the seven, prime, areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage and is used to assess children's ability to speak, pay attention, listen and understand. Children do this in range of ways including, listening to stories, responding appropriately to what people say, by articulating and expressing their feelings and developing their own narratives and connecting ideas or events.
Why building children's vocabulary skills is so important.
It is important to encourage children's vocabulary development so they develop the language and literacy skills necessary to succeed in school.
Through everyday conversations and interactions, parents use unfamiliar words and talk about what words mean, which helps expand a child's vocabulary. The activities below will support your child's vocabulary and their ability to name objects. (Please only use the labelling activities in this section)
