Assessment, moderation and monitoring

Formative Assessment

Teachers at Thomas Jolyffe School conduct daily formative assessments to evaluate children's grasp of lesson objectives, identify any misconceptions, and assess readiness to advance. They provide pre-teaching or same-day interventions to address identified learning gaps and misconceptions.

Summative Assessment

At the conclusion of each unit and term, children undergo summative assessments utilising termly White Rose assessment materials, which are targeted to the objectives that are covered in a particular term. These assessment results are recorded on Insight, offering a comprehensive overview of children's progress.

Moderation

Teachers at Thomas Jolyffe have the opportunity to moderate the quality of learning with other schools within the local network, promoting collaboration and sharing best practice

Monitoring

The Mathematics Subject Leader and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) consistently monitor the quality and impact of the mathematics curriculum at Thomas Jolyffe School. This monitoring encompasses targeted learning walks, book scrutiny, pupil interviews, and surveys of staff and children to assess perceptions and identify areas for improvement.

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School is determined for all pupils to succeed. Since the previous inspection, many changes have been made. The school has prioritised the development of the curriculum to promote high expectations for all pupils. Staff invest in pupils to build positive relationships with them. Personal development is a strength. The school provides opportunities to enrich pupils’ experiences. Pupils value participating in sporting competitions, such as cross country, football and netball. They also take on positions of responsibility, including school councillors and inclusion champions. Pupils value the leadership skills that they are developing. The school has developed an inclusive environment, where all pupils participate in every aspect of school life. Recently, the school has had a new library. The pupils are very proud of it and say, ‘It is a reading wonderland. It is like walking into another world.’ (OFSTED April 2024)
