Year 2 - Mrs Wheatley, Mrs Musk and Miss Fullerton

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to Year 2, where Mrs Wheatley and Mrs Musk are the teachers in 2WM and Miss Fullerton is the class teacher in 2F. Children are supported in their learning by Mrs Mann, Miss Johnson and Mrs Beard also.

Meet the team:

Mrs Wheatley is so excited to be with year 2 for another year at TJ! Mrs Wheatley loves singing and reading books aloud and her favourite thing to do is to go for a long, muddy walk with her children and fluffy dog!

Mrs Musk is looking forward to the year ahead with her new year 2. She loves walking and running with her fox red lab, Ruby. Her secret pleasure is listening to pop music loudly!

Miss Fullerton is excited for her second year of teaching at TJ! Miss Fullerton enjoys walking her dog, Mabel and reading lots of books. She is also christmas obsessed.

Mrs Beard is so happy to be working in year 2 again. She likes to keep active by doing exercise classes. She also loves dancing, walking and spending time with her family.

Mrs Mann loves working in year 2. She enjoys reading, gardening and baking for her family.

Miss Johnson is really happy to join the year 2 team ! She enjoys swimming, reading and cooking in her spare time.

In Year 2 we work together to provide a happy, busy and enriching learning environment in which children are nurtured and encouraged to achieve their full potential in all areas. We have high expectations, which the children respond positively to.

During Year 2, we build upon existing skills and concepts.  These are extended by encouraging the children to explore and investigate ideas further as they become increasingly independent in their learning.

A high value is placed on working in partnership with parents in order to enable children to progress effectively, according to their individual needs.

We aim to make learning exciting and fun and promote cross curricular learning wherever possible by linking subjects together to inspire, engage and challenge the children’s interests and thinking.

The children are encouraged to become responsible members of the school and community, by demonstrating respect, understanding and care towards others.

By the end of Year 2, our aim is for the children to have a smooth transition into KS2 as happy, confident and enthusiastic learners, equipped with the skills and independence needed to continue to develop a love for learning and achieve highly.

Email Communication Statement

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.

As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School is determined for all pupils to succeed. Since the previous inspection, many changes have been made. The school has prioritised the development of the curriculum to promote high expectations for all pupils. Staff invest in pupils to build positive relationships with them. Personal development is a strength. The school provides opportunities to enrich pupils’ experiences. Pupils value participating in sporting competitions, such as cross country, football and netball. They also take on positions of responsibility, including school councillors and inclusion champions. Pupils value the leadership skills that they are developing. The school has developed an inclusive environment, where all pupils participate in every aspect of school life. Recently, the school has had a new library. The pupils are very proud of it and say, ‘It is a reading wonderland. It is like walking into another world.’ (OFSTED April 2024)
