Miss Mason is new to TJ and has been impressed with the community spirit of the school. She enjoys playing tag rugby, cycling, running and anything outdoorsy! She has a cute dog called Marlin who loves paddle boarding on the river.
Mrs Musk is so excited to be with year 4 at TJ! Mrs Musk loves running, going to the gym and walking her gorgeous dog, Ruby by the racecourse.
Mrs Moore has been at TJ for over 10 years and is very excited to be in year 4 with Mrs Musk! She enjoys running, eating cake, spending time with her grown-up children and she also has a cute dog called Beau who is her furry baby.
Homework will be set on Tuesdays to be completed by the following Monday, with spelling and times tables activities to be completed throughout the week using the spelling practice sheet. Additional science and humanities tasks will be shared via Class Dojo.
Reading should be ongoing throughout the week. Children need to bring their reading record and reading book into school and aim to have their reading record signed at least 5 times a week. Children can quiz at school or home using the link below.
For Autumn 1, our Science unit will be all about Food and Digestion! In this unit we will learn about key organs in our digestive system, investigating different toothbrushes and studying animal teeth and their diet.
- PE days for 4M will be on Tuesday and Wednesday
- PE days for 4MM will be on Tuesday and Wednesday
Spelling homework will be set once a week. Children will be given 'look, say, cover, write, check grids and will need to practice their spellings once each day Monday to Friday. Children will need to bring their homework back in on a Monday when they will be given a new list of spellings. The interactive games on Spelling Shed will continue to be accessed if children would like to practise their spellings further.
At TJ we understand that reading is incredibly important and has a large impact on a child's future success. We ask that children in year 4 read with an adult for at least 15 minutes each day and that parents record this reading in the child's reading record. Class teachers will check reading records regularly to monitor that this is being done. If children do not have at least 5 days of reading signed in their record per week we will contact parents/carers to see if there is anything we can do to help.
TT Rockstars is used for children to practise their times tables. They should aim to practice for 10 minutes daily.
Maths homework will be set weekly on a Tuesday and a paper copy sent home.
Please bring your reading record and reading book to school every day, as well as your water bottle and healthy fruit snack for play time. Children should aim to read at home daily and parents should sign reading records to confirm that they have read. Reading can take many forms and can be on a device, newspaper, recipe as well as their reading book etc.

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply.
As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.
