Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Year 2 - Mr Crocker and Mr Rose

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to Year 2, where Mr Rose is the teacher in 2R and Mr Crocker is the class teacher in 2C. Children are supported in their learning by Mrs Mann, Miss Flemming and Mrs Beard also.

In Year 2 we work together to provide a happy, busy and enriching learning environment in which children are nurtured and encouraged to achieve their full potential in all areas. We have high expectations, which the children respond positively to.

During Year 2, we build upon existing skills and concepts.  These are extended by encouraging the children to explore and investigate ideas further as they become increasingly independent in their learning.

A high value is placed on working in partnership with parents in order to enable children to progress effectively, according to their individual needs.

We aim to make learning exciting and fun and promote cross curricular learning wherever possible by linking subjects together to inspire, engage and challenge the children’s interests and thinking.

The children are encouraged to become responsible members of the school and community, by demonstrating respect, understanding and care towards others.

By the end of Year 2, our aim is for the children to have a smooth transition into KS2 as happy, confident and enthusiastic learners, equipped with the skills and independence needed to continue to develop a love for learning and achieve highly.

Email Communication Statement

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.

As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.

‘Children are captivated by their learning’, ‘The well-being of pupils is at the heart of the school’, ‘School is a calm place - pupils are polite, courteous and well-mannered.'
