The Year 6 team:
6O: Mr Oakley
6HP: Mrs Preedy & Miss Holmes
Learning Assistants: Mrs Culbert & Mrs Cottriall
Mr Oakley has previously taught in Birmingham and Walsall in a range of Key Stage 2 classes. Mr Oakley is responsible for Science in the school. Mr Oakley may look like he is the height of the Eiffel Tower, but he is actually only 6ft 7 (unfortunately most door frames are 6ft 6in so he might not be able to get in your classroom)! Feel free to challenge him to see if he can fit through any door frames you come across.
Mrs Preedy has been teaching in TJ for 16 years in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Mrs Preedy is our Assistant head and is responsible for PSHE & IPC in the school. If you want to give Mrs Preedy the creeps, ask her a question about her favourite bird: it turns out she is not a big fan of any birds! On top of this, Mrs Preedy is a big sports fan and loves to organise and colour code!
Miss Holmes is in her fourth year of teaching year 6 and has previously taught in year 3. Miss Holmes is SENCo and is responsible for PSHE. Miss Holmes is a real Pandora's Box of information! She loves pandas, plays netball in Stratford and has even taught in China! I know my first question would be what her favourite food in China was!
Mrs Culbert is an expereinced learning assistant who has a passion for running! Feel free to challenge her to a race if you see her out and about: although don't expect to win!
We are super excited for our return to school in September and can't wait to get back into some and old and some new routines. This term we will be focusing on the IPC topic 'The Holiday Show' and learning all about the circulatory and respiratory system in science.
Homework will be given on the following days:
Reading should be ongoing throughout the week. Children can quiz at school or at home using the following link: https://ukhosted30.renlearn.co.uk/2249477/

Email Communication Statement
As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.
As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.
