Welcome Back to the Summer Term
Welcome back, we hope you have had a wonderful break.
Below you will see our Summer Newsletter including key dates for the rest of the term and a new 'Mindful Moments' section to help relax and unwind.
We are looking forward to another fantastic term,
Miss Holmes, Mrs Preedy & Mr Oakley
Jill and Fred's most Hysterical Historical Adventure!
We are looking forward to inviting you to the Year 6's end of term play on Monday 11th July. There will be 2 shows, one in the morning and one in the evening (TBC).
Please see below a list of characters and the costumes needed for each individual character. All costumes need to be in school by Monday 4th July.
Please support your child in helping them to learn their lines and practice the words to the songs. You will find the song words and music below.
Need a little bit of me time or just a chance to escape the stresses of SATs and workload? Try out some of these mindful activities to allow you to switch off from everything and take time for yourself.
The Year 6 team:
6O: Mr Oakley
6HP: Mrs Preedy & Miss Holmes
Learning Assistants: Mrs Evans & Mrs Martin
Mr Oakley is one of our new additions to TJ this year. He has previously taught in Birmingham and Walsall in a range of Key Stage 2 classes. Mr Oakley is responsible for DT in the school. Mr Oakley may look like he is the height of the Eiffel Tower, but he is actually only 6ft 7 (unfortunately most door frames are 6ft 6in so he might not be able to get in your classroom)! Feel free to challenge him to see if he can fit through any door frames you come across.
Mrs Preedy has been teaching in TJ for 15 years in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Together with Mr Oakley, Mrs Preedy is Key Stage 2 Phase Leader and is responsible for PE in the school. If you want to give Mrs Preedy the creeps, ask her a question about her favourite bird: it turns out she is not a big fan of any birds! On top of this, Mrs Preedy is a big sports fan and loves to organise and colour code!
Miss Holmes is in her third year of teaching year 6 and has previously taught in year 3. Miss Holmes is taking on the exciting prospect of SENCo this year and is responsible for PSHE. Miss Holmes is a real Pandora's Box of information! She loves pandas, plays netball in Startford and has even taught in China! I know my first question would be what her favourite food in China was!
Mrs Evans is one of most experienced Learning Assistants here at TJ and has been on the team for 16 years and is fountain of knowledge. Mrs Evans loves to write and has just finished her second novel: come speak to her to find out more!
Mrs Martin is another new member of staff with us this year and has been teaching abroad in recent years. Again, feel free to quiz her on what learning is like in Saudi Arabia!
We are super excited for our return to school in September and can't wait to get back into some and old and some new routines. This term we will be focusing on the IPC topic 'The Holiday Show' and learning all about the circulatory and respiratory system in science.
Homework will be given on the following days:
Reading should be ongoing throughout the week. Children can quiz at school or at home using the following link: https://ukhosted30.renlearn.co.uk/2249477/

Email Communication Statement
As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.
As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.
