Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Year 6 - Mr Drummond and Miss Holmes

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to the Year 6 Class Page.

Unfortunately, due to the national lockdown school will be shut for all children except key workers.

During this period of isolation, your teachers will be opening a group video meeting using the Teams app at 9:30 each morning. They will  introduce you to some ideas for learning that day. Most of the lessons will be accessed using the ‘Oak Academy Remote Learning’ and links will be provided below, on this class web page to take you directly to those video lessons.

Teachers will open a second daily Teams meeting at 3:00pm each day, to talk to you about what you have been learning. You can also email Miss Holmes and Mr Drummond with your questions or to share your photos or videos of your learning.

If the timing of these online meetings is not convenient for you, they will be recorded and you will be able to access them at a more suitable time.

Miss Holmes and Mr Drummond

The Year 6 team:

6D: Mr Drummond

6H: Miss Holmes

Learning Assistants: Miss Green, Mrs Evans & Miss Richards

Mr Drummond and Miss Holmes both joined Thomas Jolyffe at the same time and have been teaching here for 4 years.

Mr Drummond moved to TJ, having previously taught in Banbury for 5 years. He is a Key Stage 2 Phase Leader and is responsible for Computing in the school.

Miss Holmes has previously taught in year 3, before moving to year 6 and is responsible for PE.

We are really pleased with how well the children have settled into Year 6 and their new routines. This term we will be focusing on the IPC topic 'What price is progress?' and learning all about the circulatory and respiratory system in science.

Homework will be given on the following days:

  • Monday:
    • Spellings
    • Spelling test
  • Thursday:
    • Grammar, punctuation and spelling worksheet or page in your revision guide
    • Maths homework, either on MyMaths or as a worksheet

Reading should be ongoing throughout the week. Children can quiz at school or at home using the following link:

Email Communication Statement

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.

As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.

‘Children are captivated by their learning’, ‘The well-being of pupils is at the heart of the school’, ‘School is a calm place - pupils are polite, courteous and well-mannered’
