We are really looking forward to seeing you virtually everday! It is on these pages you will find all the information you need to continue your learning at home. Here is an overview of how our home learning will work:
At 9:30am each morning we will meet with you via Micrsoft Teams, and introduce you to your learning for the day. Most of the lessons will be accessed using the Oak Academy, and links to the specific work will be given in the relevant tab below. We will also put the links in our class on Microsoft Teams too.
At 3:00pm in the afteroon we will meet you again via Teams to talk about what you have been learning. You can email us any questions and share your learning throughout the day.
If the timings for the online meetings are not convenient for you, we will be recording the meetings, and these will be available for you to view any time via Teams.
As well as the daily work we set you, don't forget to keep practising your times tables on Times Tables Rockstars and keep reading as often as you can. Below are the links to TT Rockstars and Accelerated Reader to quiz on the books you have read.
Email Communication Statement
As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.
As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.
We will also be setting weekly Maths homework using the online programme 'MyMaths'. A new activity will be set each Friday to be completed for the next Friday. This will be linked to the learning we have been doing in class. Where applicable, some Maths homework will be sent home in hard copy for your child.
Times tables Rockstars
Being able to apply their times tables accurately and quickly is fundamental, especially in Year 4 due to the times table test towards the end of the year. To support the children, we would like them to be practising their times tables at least 3 times a week. Rock on Year 4!
Year 4 will continue to hand out new spellings each Friday and the children will complete their test the following Friday. If children misplace their spellings, they can request a further copy during the week.
ReadingWe are expecting all children to be reading for at least 20 minutes each day. They should also be using their reading records and bringing them into school daily. Children can access the Accelerated Reading scheme to quiz at home.
