Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Year 4 - Mrs Derbyshire and Mrs Karban

Welcome to our Year 4 class pages!

Self-isolating Learning - 9th March to 21st March 2021

We didn't think we'd be doing this so soon! We hope you are all safe and well. All the work for this period will be in the rainbow link below. There will be a page for each day as before.

At 9:30am each morning we will meet in our own class Team (4D or Mrs Karban's Class), and introduce you to your learning for the day.

At 2:00pm in the afteroon we will meet you again via Teams to talk about what you have been learning.

If the timings for the online meetings are not convenient for you, we will be recording the meetings, and these will be available for you to download and view any time via Teams.

The meetings are in your calendar, or you can join them once they have started from the Teams posts - just click 'join' in the blue rectangle.

Email Communication Statement

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff - especially this year where face to face contact is rare. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply. However, children who are self isolating or quarantining will be given priority. Urgent matters are best discussed via the school office, who will ensure the message is delivered as quickly as possible.

As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.

Maths

We will also be setting weekly Maths homework using the online programme 'MyMaths'. A new activity will be set each Friday to be completed for the next Friday. This will be linked to the learning we have been doing in class.  Where applicable, some Maths homework will be sent home in hard copy for your child.

Times tables Rockstars

Being able to apply their times tables accurately and quickly is fundamental, especially in Year 4 due to the times table test towards the end of the year. To support the children, we would like them to be practising their times tables at least 3 times a week. Rock on Year 4!

Spelling

Year 4 will continue to hand out new spellings each Friday and the children will complete their test the following Friday. If children misplace their spellings, they can request a further copy during the week.

Reading

We are expecting all children to be reading for at least 20 minutes each day. They should also be using their reading records and bringing them into school daily.  Children can access the Accelerated Reading scheme to quiz at home.
‘Children are captivated by their learning’, ‘The well-being of pupils is at the heart of the school’, ‘School is a calm place - pupils are polite, courteous and well-mannered’
