Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Year 4 - Miss Davey-Over and Mr Phipps

Welcome to our Year 4 class pages!

Welcome to Year 4!

We are well into the throws of our school year now and have begun our fabulous new topic all about Chocolate! Whilst it is no surprise the children are enjoying their learning about this fantastic subject, it is a pleasure to see how engaged they have been in their geography topic.

Here are a few key reminders for Year 4:

  • PE will take place on Tuesday and swimming on Wendesday. Please come into school wearing PE kit. On swimming days children will need to come into school wearing school uniform. They will need to bring a waterproof bag containing a towel and their swimming costume. They may bring with them goggles and a swimming cap if they wish.
  • Spelling tasks will be set on Monday afternoons ready for our check the following Monday. To support this, it would help to discuss the spelling rule for words on their word list when practising at home.
  • A written spelling task will now be given out on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday.
  • Log on details for MyMaths are in reading records (along with Times Tables Rockstar log on details, and Accelerated Reader log on details).
  • Please try to aim to practice times tables for at least 10 minutes each day.
  • Please bring your reading record and reading book to school every day, as well as your water bottle (filled with water only) and healthy fruit snack for play time.

Email Communication Statement

As we are able to conduct face-to-face contact this year, this is the preferred method of communication between teachers and guardians. Please feel free to arrange a meeting with us to discuss any concerns. We are also out on the playground most days for any quick questions.

As a school we recognise the value of providing email addresses for parents to communicate non-urgent issues with members of staff. At Thomas Jolyffe teachers are free to check their emails as they wish in order to fit to their own preferred work pattern but are not expected to check while they are teaching, while they are at home, or at weekends - so response times may vary. We believe that up to 48 working hours is a reasonable length of time to receive a considered reply.

As with all messages, the meaning and tone may vary depending on who is reading it. Please consider this before choosing to email any member of staff. We would also encourage all parents to consider information sent to teachers regarding other children very carefully as this can be requested by other parents under the rules governing GDPR.

‘Children are captivated by their learning’, ‘The well-being of pupils is at the heart of the school’, ‘School is a calm place - pupils are polite, courteous and well-mannered’
