Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Thomas Jolyffe Primary School

Week commencing 1st June

Friday 5th June

Hello year 5.  The time seems to whizz past so quickly?  As you know, school is open to some year groups from next week.  As teachers are going back into school, home learning will be put up onto the website for the whole week – we will add other bits and pieces on a daily basis too.

We are also going to be putting some “virtual” after school clubs on the website at 3.30pm every day.  Look out for Mrs Anderson’s science club, which will be held on a Friday.   Have a lovely weekend.

Maths: Wednesday 3rd June

There are two parts to the maths lesson today.  The first part involves you logging on to Times Tables Rockstars and having a play on the games there. If you haven't contacted your class teacher yet to get your log on details and the instructions, please email them today and they will send it back to you as soon as possible.

When you go on to the website for the first time you have to set up your rock star name and then play a Gig. Once you have done that, play some games in the Garage and some games in the Arena. All the people in the Arena should be other children at Thomas Jolyffe. You won't know who they are though as they too will have a cool rock star name!

In the second part of the lesson, we are going to be finding fractions of amounts.

This week’s spelling rule is based on adding the suffix ‘fer’ and knowing when to add the double ‘f’’. It is important that you read and understand the PowerPoint because it tells you how to identify if the ‘fer’ is stressed or not and this will help you spell the word correctly.

There is then a worksheet to help you practise your skills.

  1. Complete the worksheet
  2. Use the words in an interesting sentence
