LO: To find the area by counting squares

In this lesson you will look at how you can count squares within a shape to find the area. Then you will look a bit deeper to find the area of shapes that cover only part of some squares and finally how to find the area of rectangles using a more efficient method.

LO: To write the opening of an explanation text

In this lesson, will write our opening (introduction) and first paragraph of our explanation text on the chocolate making process. Have your plan from yesterday to hand so you can complete the work! Below is the link to the video lesson and also a sheet with 'task 1' and the success criteria. On the sheet there are also some key words to help you with your conjunctions. It would be a good idea to watch the whole video and then have this sheet open (or printed off). Also, just in case you missed yesterday's lesson, there is a copy of the plan the teacher created.  We can't wait to read your finished text!

L.O. To research information about a country in South America

Last week you found out about the continent of South America. You learnt about all the different countries that made up this large continent. In the next few geography lessons we would like you to find out more about one country in South America or a feature of South America as a whole. The choice of which one is yours. Below is some ideas of features and a map of the countries you may wish to find out about.

Music of South America

The Amazon Rain forest

The Andes Mountains

Machu Picchu in Peru

Deserts of South America

Art in South America

Clothing in South America

Birds and or animals of South America

You can present this work in any way you would like. It may be a PowerPoint, fact file, report, poster, leaflet, a video documentary,  to name a few ways to do it. The only thing we ask you not to do is just cut and paste text from the internet.

Remember you have at least 3 lessons to do this work in so you do not have to worry about doing it all at once.

Hint : If you Google information for yourself to do your own research, always add 'for children' or 'for kids' to whatever you research and the information you get is much more likely to be suitable.
