English – Wednesday 8th July 2020

Hello again, well done for making it half way through the week! For today’s English lesson I would like you to recreate a new book cover for a story that you have enjoyed. You could use Matilda or another book that we have read this year, I have added some pictures of the original book covers below to help you. I would like you to include the following:

  • Book title
  • A picture
  • Author’s name
  • Illustrator’s name

Maths – Wednesday 8th July 2020

Take a look at the picture below. This was painted by an artist called Wassily Kandinsky. He was fascinated my shapes and maths and a lot of his pictures are based on these. Examine it closely.

What shapes do you see?

What lines do you see?

What colours does he use?

Do the shapes/lines overlap or are they separate or is it a mixture?

How do you think he created the shapes?

Swinging by Kandinsky

Now it’s your turn. Use this picture as an inspiration for your own art work inspired by what you know about geometry. Use a ruler for straight lines and draw around circular objects for the circles and curved lines. If you have any paints you could paint it after you have drawn it or you could colour it in. Look at how Kandinsky blends the colours in some shapes. How could you create a similar effect?
