Today we would like you to create a TV or radio advert for your chosen product. Use the work you did yesterday to help you. You can record this any way you like – Write a script in your book; record a radio advert; make a TV advert or any other way you can think of!

Remember to use lots of persuasive language and target your advert at people you think would be interested in your product.

We hope you have fun and would love to see some of your final pieces. Please email them to us; we can put some of the best ones up on the website!

Thursday 21st May

Hello year 5. We hope you are well.  It was good to hear from one or two of you in the week.  Joel made Mrs Anderson laugh when he told her that he had been having water fights using Calpol syringes with his brother.

He suggested that Mrs Anderson try it, but unfortunately her children are all grown up, and she doesn’t have any Calpol syringes. She did, however, have a hosepipe and this week had a self-distancing water fight against the neighbours.  They had a super-soaker gun – who do you think came off worse!?  Remember to ASK your neighbours first, before trying this!?

Tuesday 19th May

Hello year 5.  We hope you are well.  This week is National Mental Health Awareness week, which is a chance for the UK to focus on mental health.

This year’s theme is kindness.  The focus on kindness is a response to the coronavirus outbreak, which is having a big impact on people’s mental health.  Have a look at the link, which is from BBC Newsround to find out more? https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52557800

Your teachers all know what a lovely, kind bunch you are!  So why not go out of your way today to show an act of kindness?  It might be helping with cooking the dinner, giving a family member (in your household) a huge hug, or helping your brother or sister with something?  We’d love to know what you’ve been up to, so please let us know in an email?  Send pictures!  We love seeing your faces!

This week we will be looking at adverts and how they use persuasion.

Firstly, please read through the two Powerpoint presentations about advertising.

TASK 1: Create a word bank of at least 8 persuasive words and phrases which might be used to sell a particular product in an advert. For example, Unbelievable offer! Last chance to buy, for a limited time only…

TASK 2: Look back at the second Powerpoint – can you complete an activity from the final page?

English challenge for fun! Words that look like their meanings…

Mrs Anderson used to love making words look like their meanings.  For example:

Curly               Scary                  Fat

Without using the fonts on a computer (I cheated), how many words can you make look like their meanings?  Email some to us, and we’ll share them with your friends on the website.

Good luck!
