English – Friday 26th June 2020

Well done for making it to Friday!

First, spelling test time. Take your time to have a practice (like we would at school) and then ask a parent or guardian to test you. You could then work together to check through them.

For the second activity today you will need to finish the chapter we started yesterday, watch from 1 hour 40 minutes and 38 seconds to 1 hour 46 minutes and 46 seconds. I have also attached the rest of the chapter below as a pdf.

I would like you to imagine you are an older child at Crunchum School, who has been caught for doing something that The Trunchbull didn’t approve of. You are going to write your own part of a chapter where your character is telling Matilda and Lavender about their experience with Miss Trunchbull, similar to Hortensia in this chapter. You could include the chokey or another terrifying punishment!

I would like you to include the following:

  • Inverted commas (“”)
  • Time conjunctions (then, last year, after that)
  • Emotions (terrified, hilarious, nervous)

It would be lovely to read your writing and see what awful experiences you have chosen for your character, so please do send them through to us!

Note to Parents: The lesson next Tuesday will involve drawing lines and shapes accurately. For this lesson the children will need a 30 cm ruler that measures in cm and mm.

Maths – Friday 26th June 2020

Its the Friday Maths Challenge!

For this challenge you will need:

The angle measure you may yesterday.

The analogue clock you used last week.

Task

The challenge is to find how many times in 12 hours the hands of a clock make a right angle – to the nearest minute. Clue: there is more than 4!.

Write down the time when you see a right angle.

Here is the challenge explained and the solution (do not peek until you think you have found them all and then get an adult to check for in case you need to find some more!)

Today's Puzzle. What do you notice? What do you wonder? What questions do you want to ask?

‘Children are captivated by their learning’, ‘The well-being of pupils is at the heart of the school’, ‘School is a calm place - pupils are polite, courteous and well-mannered’
