World Book Day 2018

Bringing the Love of Reading to Life

Despite the cold snowy weather all children had a great day sharing their love of reading in more ways than one. The children all looked fantastic dressed up in their favourite book characters, as did all the staff.

During the day children took part in a variety of reading activities, one of which included a Treasure Hunt. Hiding around school were characters such as the Gruffalo, Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit and many many more. The children had fun working together to name the character, their author and other characters found in the same stories. The infant hall was set up as a cosy reading snug. Each year group had time to snuggle down and get comfy whilst being taken on an adventure in their chosen book. It was also lovely to see mixed key stages sharing their love of reading. Please see the website for pictures from our great day.

Thank you to parents for helping out with their children’s costumes, I hope the children came back full of reading enthusiasm.

Accelerated Reading Challenge- Who wants to be a reader millionaire?

This week Mrs Preedy set Years 2-6 a reading challenge linked with their AR books. The 1st class to collectively read 1 million words will be rewarded with a prize of their choice. The winning class will be announced at the end of this half term. Alongside this, for those children who individually read 1 million words by the end of this academic year will be rewarded with afternoon tea with the SLT team. The children have been very excited about this and already staff have seen more children making sure they are quizzing after every book. Good Luck everyone, Keep Reading.
