On the 12/10/18, the boys' football team produced a fantastic display of talent, teamwork and nerve to win the FA Schools Area tournament!

The windy conditions were challenging but the boys started magnificently, winning their first two group games by a score line of 1-0, thanks to goals from Ben and Max. A close encounter with Claverdon finished 0-0 thanks to some excellent defending, before an unlucky defeat to Wellesbourne, where the wind played a major role in the goals!

The results meant that the boys finished second in their group and progressed to face the winners of the other group in the semi-finals, Shipston. It was a game of two halves, with Shipston taking the lead into half-time. However, an excellent demonstration of determination and perseverance saw the team equalise early in the second half; Max with another fine finish. The close game finished 1-1, with penalties to be the deciding factor! Penalties were taken with the wind direction, making it a very difficult job for the goalkeepers, but John’s bravery and agility were commendable as the team came through a nerve-racking shootout to progress to the final.

With the light fading and winds howling, the boys faced a very good Willows team in the final. The game was end-to-end, with the Willows almost taking the lead from a goal kick that hit the crossbar! TJ continued to press for a winner, but the tight game finished 0-0; penalties again deciding the victor. The wind was with the goalkeepers for this shootout - John again producing some wonderful saves. With the score even, the job of taking the final penalty fell to Finley. He stepped up coolly to slot home and give the victory to TJ!  The boys’ respect and sportsmanship throughout the penalties was admirable. Well done boys!

Congratulations to John, Jamie, Zac, Benji, James, Ben, Max, Jose, Noah and Finley for your achievement! The team will now progress to the regional finals.
